BHP Wind Fence Electrical Install

TEC Services was engaged to complete the electrical istall works for the BHP wind fence in Port Hedland

Project Overview

In support of BHP’s $300 million air quality improvement initiative, TEC Services was engaged to deliver critical electrical and earthing works for Australia’s first large-scale wind fences, constructed in Port Hedland to reduce dust emissions from port operations. The project ran for 13 months and involved a dedicated team of 16 personnel, with completion achieved in 2024.

Working alongside live BHP rail operations and under Section 26 compliance, TEC Services delivered a complex scope including the installation of deep earth rods up to 8 metres, earth bonding connections, lightning protection systems, and over 2km of copper earthing grid across Wind Fence structures A, B, and C.

All connections were completed with Cadweld systems and protected using Denso priming and taping for long-term durability. Ductor testing was performed on every termination to ensure full compliance and safety. The project also required working at heights exceeding 25 metres, highlighting TEC Services’ capability in high-risk, technically challenging environments.

This landmark project demonstrates TEC Services’ ability to support innovative environmental solutions in the resource sector, contributing directly to improved air quality outcomes in the Pilbara.

• Long-Duration Project Delivery – 13-month delivery timeframe, involving 16 TEC Services personnel across the project lifecycle.
• Environmental Impact Contribution – Enabled innovative dust suppression infrastructure aimed at improving air quality outcomes in Port Hedland and surrounding communities.
